Surah Al Falaq

Surah Falaq
The word Falaq means dawn or day break. According to some scholars, Falaq means hell and some consider it another name of evils but the consensus of scholars is upon dawn. Surah Al Falaq is second last Surah of Quran.

Translation of Surah al Falaq

“Say, I seek refuge in the lord of dawn,
From the evil of creations,
And from the evil of darkness when it prevails,
And from the evils of sorceries when they jolt into ties,
And from the evils of spiteful when they spite.”

Essence of Surah al Falaq

In this surah, one seeks Allah’s protection and refuge from all the badness in this world.
The evil creations in the second verse means hell, Satan, his helpers and offspring.
It is normal for all the evils to come out at the night time and the diseases also outburst at this time so protection from all those night evils are also demanded. The darkness also refers to the kufr so one seeks protection from the darkness of ignorance and kufr.
The person asks for the protection from magic spells and its deadly powers of these magic spells and from those who do these magic spells.
Evil eye is also mentioned in the last verse of this Surah. So one should ask for protection from evil eyes of evil persons.

Revelation of Surah al Falaq

Surah Falaq is the 113 surah of Quran with only five verses. It is a Makki surah.

History of Surah Al Falaq

This Surah was revealed along with surah Naas when our beloved Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) was sick due to some magic spell. With the power of these Surahs, the magic spell was broken.

Aim of Surah Falaq

In this Surah, Allah taught us the way of seeking His help against the worldly harms or external harms which are most likely to harm to oneself .

Secondly it aims to make a believer understand that darkness of ignorance is still a disaster from which one should seek protection.

Benefits of Surah Falaq

Reciting Surah Falaq countlessly is helpful in seeking protection from

  • Ignorance
  • Kufr
  • Evil eyes
  • Satan and his offsprings
  • Hell
  • Black magic and its effects
  • Evils of demons
  • Evils of night or day
  • Jealousy
  • Outbreak of diseases
  • Sins taken place in darkness
  • Accidents
  • Mishaps, adversities or incursions

When to recite this Surah

Reciting this surah in morning and before sleeping is beneficial as it protects from the worldly evils. It protects whole day and during night as well. Before leaving the home, its recitation provides safety from evils and evil eyes as well.
