Allah is the very common and most used attribute of Allah. This name is only used for Allah the almighty and has different meanings according to the scholars. It is said to be the Ism E Azam according to scholars. Here is a brief article which covers all the information about this attribute.

Meaning of Allah

There are two opinions regarding this attribute of Allah. Some scholars are of view that there is no meaning of Allah but this opinion is asthenic. The prevalent opinion is that this attribute has 18 meanings but most important are the following 6.

  • The one loved by everyone deeply.
  • The one towards whom everyone turns when they were in trouble.
  • The one who provides peace
  • The one whose creations mesmerize others.
  • One who unites everyone.
  • One who cannot be imagined.

Derivation from word Illah

It is also assumed by some scholars that name Allah is derived from Arabic word Illah Which means love and care. In ancient times, there were 10 categories in which love is divided. The 10th category was deadly but the 9th one is the superior form of love in which the love and fills the lover with so much positivity and love that there left no room for something else. This positive form of love is called Illah. The love of Allah is also of same kind which fills one so much that nothing bad will remain in that person.

The history of name Allah

The word Allah is as ancient as this world. Before Islam, this name was used and found in other religions. This name was also used in other revelations. The people before Islam, believed in Allah but they used to  associate other gods with Allah. Quraish also used this name with their names like Abdullah. They thought that Allah is the lord of all the gods. It is interesting to know that no one ever tried to make a idol by the name of Allah.

Word Allah in Arabic

When two ll are used in a single word in Arabic, it is pronounced differently. The two ll’s in Allah are pronounced with a heavy tone which is a way to show respect and honor for that name. This means that there is a lot of respect and honor even in the name of Allah.

Superiority of this attribute over others

This name is used 3500 times in Quran. This is the name with which the Quran is started and ended. This name is the expected Ism E Azam in the view of most Islamic Scholars

بِسۡمِ اللّٰہِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِیۡمِ

 

In the name of Allah most merciful most beneficial.

 

اِلٰہِ  النَّاسِ

The God of mankind. Surah naas verse 3.

 

Proof from Quran 

  • Allah witnesses that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and those of knowledge – [that He is] maintaining [creation] in justice. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise. Surah Al Imran verse 18

 

  • [Be warned of] the Day when Allah will assemble the messengers and say, “What was the response you received?” They will say, “We have no knowledge. Indeed, it is You who is Knower of the unseen” surah maida verse 109

 

  • Say, “He is Allah , [who is] One, surah ikhlas verse 1.

 

  • Allah , the Eternal Refuge.Refuge. Surah ikhlas verse 2.

 Invocation through this attribute

This name is considered as the most important and powerful attribute of Allah. The four basic Azkar written below, mentioned by our Holy prophet(p.b.u.h) contains this name in abundance

سبحان اللہ والحمدللہ ولا الہ الا اللہ واللہ  اکبر

 

This is actually the extract of all the names of Allah. According to most scholars this is the actual Ism E Azam which is considered as the most beneficial when one is seeking any kind of blessing from Allah. So reciting this name countlessly for each and every problem is beneficial for one.
