Al Rehman

Al Rehman is the first attribute of Allah. Rehman means merciful. The word “Al” in Arabic language means the excess or most , so word Al Rehman  means that Allah is most merciful.
It is narrated in a Hadith of Sahih Bukhari 7404 that
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “When Allah created the Creation, He wrote in His Book–and He wrote (that) about Himself, and it is placed with Him on the Throne–‘Verily My Mercy overcomes My Anger.'”

Explanation of Al Rehman

This attribute shows

  1. Love, care and mercy of Allah
  2. Which is immediate
  3. But not permanent

This means that Allah is most loving, caring and merciful. These blessings of Allah are immediate when a person asks for it but these are not permanent as a person by his misdeeds and sins forces Allah to discontinue these blessings.

But it does not mean that once these are stopped, can never be gained again. The doors of Allah’s love, care and mercy are open always. Whenever a persons asks for it, Allah will surely grant these blessings.

 Proof of Being Al Rehman:

This universe and everything in it is the clear proof of Allah being Rehman or merciful. Our body parts and the things around us are the proof of His being merciful. Four revelation books and then one lakh twenty four thousand Prophets to guide us are the proofs of his mercy. To give us guidance after every ignorant behaviour, to forgive our sins whenever we repent is also the mercy of our lord on us.

Mercy for Whom:

Here the question arises that for whom He is merciful? Birds, animals, insects, plants, human beings, angels, demons and many more are the creations of Allah and He is merciful for all of them. All the blessings of Him which are mentioned in Quran are for all the creations and mankind so it is wrong to assume that He is only merciful to Muslims.

Quranic Verses:

The name Al Rehman is being used 57 times in Quran. Following are the verses which show that Allah is Al Rehman.

“بِسۡمِ اللّٰہِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِیۡمِ “

  • In the name of Allah , the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
  •  The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established. Surah  Taha verse 5
  • You can only warn one who follows the message and fears the Most Merciful unseen. So give him good tidings of forgiveness and noble reward. Surah Yaseen verse 11.
  • Surah Rehman, surah Furqan and surah Maryam are full of verses about Allah’s mercy.

Invocation( Duaa) through Al Rehman:

Allah is beautiful and He likes to be praised. Allah likes to be call by this name and if one ask His mercy through this name, He will surely grant according to His status. So recite this name countlessly to gain countless benefits and blessings
